A Penrith man has been fined for drunk and disorderly behaviour outside the town’s police station.
Carlisle Magistrates’ Court heard this morning how an acting inspector was inside the Hunter Lane station on September 28 this year.
That inspector became aware of 35-year-old Ionut Merticariu being outside the building.
“He was very drunk,” said prosecutor Diane Jackson. “He was banging on windows and the door. When spoken to he was shouting and swearing at the officer.
“He was described as being argumentative and confrontational. He was warned not to shout and swear but continued. That’s why he was arrested.”
In court Merticariu, of Warwick Place, Penrith, pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly, accepting he had behaved as stated by the prosecutor.
Addressing magistrates, he said he had been annoyed that occasion. He had sought several times to log a complaint with police online, regarding a past incident, and felt they had not dealt with this.
Merticariu was fined £153. He must also pay £85 prosecution costs and a £61 mandatory surcharge.
