Whitehaven lost their home game with West Lancashire League leaders Eagley but put up a commendable show.
New manager Brian Dawson picked up plenty of positives from the game which finished 2-0 to the visitors, who came to West Cumbria with 15 wins in 19 games and only one defeat.
Dawson set up his side for a counter attacking game plan, and the free-scoring visitors were denied any clearing scoring opportunities.
Unfortunately Whitehaven conceded a penalty on the stroke of half-time and although Aaron Donnelly saved it, the rebound was put home by Kieran Sisson.
Eagley did score a second through Sam Rigby, who clattered one home from distance, and they also hit the post but Donnelly didn’t have a serious save to make.

You can hear below what manager Dawson thought of his side’s performance:
Cleator Moor Celtic drew 1-1 at home to Poulton, which manager Gareth Agnew described as a fair result with neither side deserving to win or lose.
From his point of view it was a big improvement from last week when Celtic lost 4-1 at home to Astley and Buckshaw United.
Dan Hill had given them the lead after 39 minutes but just before the break Poulton levelled through Oscar Wright who had got free at the far post.
Celtic now have consecutive cup games coming up in the Richardson Cup at home to Hesketh Bank and then the much anticipated Fred Conway County Cup at home to Penrith.
To hear Agnew’s take on the game you can listen below:
Millom were once again Cumbria’s only winners on the day, bringing home the points from an exciting 3-2 victory at Rossendale.
They twice held the lead, only to be pegged back each time, before coming up with a late winner.
Chris O’Brien had edged them ahead on 22 minutes but before the break Chris Mounsey had levelled.
Top scorer Ben McDonald put Millom back in front midway through the second half, but once again Rossendale came back with an equaliser, this time from Brendan Halstead (76).
There was six minutes of normal time left when O’Brien scored his second goal and the Millom winner.
In the North West Counties, Holker Old Boys lost 3-2 at leaders Thornton Clevely’s in a game they scored the first and last goals.
In between Thornton scored three through Daniel Storey (13), Samuel Viegas (45 + 1) and Luke Harris (73).
Luke Davey had given Holker a ninth minute lead and Tyler Spence gave them late hope with an 89th minute strike.
