Kendal Town will go to the last match of the regular season looking for the win that could take them into the play-offs.
A 1-0 win at Whickham sees them playing Thornaby at Parkside Road on Saturday needing a win to pip West Auckland or Boro Rangers.
West Auckland are at home to Whickham while Boro still have to play Thornaby at home on Tuesday and another home fixture on Saturday to Newcastle Benfield.
It looks like the Mintcakes are third favourites to grab a play-off place but manager Matt Flynn is looking for a big turnout from the town to boost their efforts at the weekend.
Flynn was delighted with the “ugly, scruffy win at Whickham” in difficult conditions which was provided via a James Bailey goal just before half time.
You can hear chairman Michael O’Neill’s thoughts below:
Penrith are in line for their best finish in 10 years as they did Kendal a helping hand with a very good 3-1 home win over Boro Rangers.
They are a different side at home than they are away from home and that showed again with this polished display.
Boro had taken the lead on 29 minutes with a goal from Jack Guy but Penrith levelled a minute before the break from Luke Brown.
After the break Penrith started to dominate and two goals from Kian Makar (78, 82) earned them a deserved win.
You can hear what manager Jim Nichols thought of the game below:
Carlisle City manager Dan Kirkup was banned from the Gillford Park stadium for picking up three yellow cards and with Mark Boyd unavailable, defender Tom Mahone took on touchline responsibilities.
It was quite a baptism for the Cumbrians as they were hosting league leaders Guisborough who needed to win to claim the title and promotion.
They did that with a 4-1 victory, helped by the fact that City had to make changes before and during the game.
Jordan Holt had actually given City the lead after 14 minutes but two goals from Kurtis Howes (30) and Matt Wilshaw (32) gave the visitors an interval advantage.
They consolidated their position to go on and claim the title with further goals from Jack Bailey (73) and Wilshaw (74).
