A Cumbrian scout group are celebrating their 100th anniversary with an epic fundraising challenge.
2nd Ulverston Scout Group is set to walk 300 miles in a unique race that will take place on Hoad Hill, in Ulverston.
Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will battle it out between 9.30am and 11.30am on Sunday April 19 to see how many times they can summit the hill.
The group is taking on the challenge to raise funds to buy a fleet of paddleboards so the children can experience and learn about the fast-growing sport.
Over £1,000 has been raised so far for the group and group leaders have also completed their paddleboard instructor qualifications.
Group scout leader Gavin Knott said: “Our young people are always up for a challenge – and there will be some friendly competition on the day as to who can walk the most laps.
“Fundraising to buy their own equipment also means the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will also feel a real sense of achievement and ownership about this project.
“By keeping our subscription fees as low as possible and fundraising for our equipment, we ensure that all our activities are accessible to all young people, no matter what their family’s situation.
“Scouting helps young people to develop skills and confidence, make new friends and have lots of fun along the way.”
The group will also sell drinks, cakes and hot dogs throughout the morning at the event base at Ford Park and at the start of the route on the Hoad.
The Sir John Barrow Monument team will also be opening the attraction an hour earlier this Sunday, at noon, to allow event participants and spectators to visit after the challenge has finished.
