A new, larger, temporary Co-op store is set to open in Aspatria.
It will open on Queen Street Car Park on Friday, 3 July and will stock a wider range of products in response to demand.
To open the new store, Co-op agreed a revised arrangement with Cumberland Council.
The supermarket chain also carried out improvement works on the car park including pothole repairs, cutting back foliage around car park lighting, and new white lining for bays and create 18 extra spaces.
Julie Parr, Co-op store manager, said: “The whole team is delighted that a new and larger temporary store is soon set to open.
“We are absolutely committed to supporting Aspatria, and this will make a huge difference – there is a significantly improved range and choice and more of our deals and promotions available conveniently while we invest in Aspatria to transform our main store in the town.
“We would like to thank the Council for its support. We’ve listened to the community and added to the products we sell – including the addition of wines and beers.
“Furthermore, if there is a product a customer wants that we don’t stock we will do all we can to get it for them from nearby Co-op stores.
“We look forward to launching our new, temporary, home, and continue our focus on serving the local community.”
The firm had initially hoped that the redeveloped King Street store would be open for business in May this year.
But Co-op has not yet confirmed a new projected opening date for the new permanent store.
A Co-op spokesman said: “Co-op is committed to investing in Aspatria, and to redeveloping its main store to create a modern and sustainable new store which will future proof the building and better serve and support the community.
“It is an old building, additional structural and services works were identified, and we will work through these as quickly as possible.”
The new temporary store will open between 7am-8pm daily.
