Workington Town coach Chris Thorman knows his squad will have to learn quickly as they adapt to life in the Betfred Champions.
Promoted from League One after finishing runners up to Barrow last season and they started life at the higher level with a 20-6 home defeat to Newcastle Thunder.
Next up is a trip to Widnes Vikings who were able to open their account in the opening game with a 34-12 win at London Broncos.
“It’s fine margins between the Championship and League One and the players are going to learn quickly to adapt,” says Thorman.
“The challenge is learning to adapt to the intensity levels between the two levels.
“Against Newcastle, our execution let us down in the first half. We had plenty of possession and territory but didn’t back it up with our execution.
“We had one or two things planned from our ballplayers but the kicks weren’t just on the money.”
Thorman is hoping to bring in an overseas player over the next two weeks and says he will then be happy with his squad.
Two of the team that played against Newcastle – Jake Lightowler and Evan Simons will need to be monitored after suffering head knocks at the weekend.
But Declan O’Donnell who has just re-joined the squad after a brief stay in London with the Broncos will be back in the frame.
Widnes don’t have any serious injury concerns and were delighted that 30 of their 34 points in London were scored by homegrown players.
