Penrith hope to make amends tonight

Penrith are on the road tonight to Newcastle Benfield aiming to make amends for Saturday’s collapse at Boro Rangers.

The Bonny Blues had gone in front before trailing 2-1 at the break but it was the last half an hour which saw them really slump and they finished beaten 5-1.

Manager Jim Nichols said: “That was a really disappointing finish after we had started well but that’s behind us now and we have an early chance to put things right tonight.”

Benfield lie fourth in the table, level on points with Penrith’s recent conquerors Boro Rangers who are third on goal difference.

Penrith are four points back in twelfth having drawn half their six games so far.

Carlisle City should have played Birtley Town but that game has been postponed as their opponents are involved in an FA Cup replay at Crook against Shildon.

Kendal Town have a Cup replay themselves after Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Northallerton.

They expect to be stronger for the second meeting at Parkside and also have the incentive of a home tie in the next round against Dunston if they are successful tonight.
